Pre-service training is for individuals who are interested in fostering. PRIDE is Ontario’s standardized training curriculum for foster, kinship in care, and adoptive applicants. Once individuals are approved to become foster parents, they continue to work with their Foster Care Support Worker to develop a personalized learning plan and continue to attend various training and skills development courses. Foster parents are important members of the child’s care team. Foster parents work with and get support from a variety of professionals—child welfare workers, social workers, child and youth care workers, medical and mental health professionals—to help meet the needs of children and youth who live with them.
